CARY KOFFLER / BIO
I paint whats inside my head; the visions, ideas, concepts, dreamscapes and hullucinations that bombard my brain nonstop, reveal themselves to me as the art thdat i do. As far back as I can remember, this world inside my head has always been a "Disneyland on Acid; Mr. Toads Wild Ride" filled with menacing monsters, demons, psychotic murderers, sinister clowns, and all the other frightening ingrediants needed for delightful nightmares. By grade school, I was writing my own horror stories and illustrating their madness as well, while the other kids played with their toys, or did whatever else little kids do. When I was ten, my dad (The Greatest Doctor Who Ever Lived), got drafted into the army and stationed overseas, moving us to Pisa, Italy, where during the next few years, we traveled throughout most of Europe visiting places most only read about in books.
Most awesone however, was being given the opportunity to appreciate, with my own eyes, the works of Michaelangelo, Davinci, and the other Great Renaissance Masters, an experience that inspired me like nver before, surprisingly changing my life from that point on, just the thought of being able to express the world inside my head at a level even close to that set by these superheros became my mission, my lifes goal, my obesession. I moved back to Southern California just in time to enter High School in Pasedena, where I was given the opportunity to do all sorts of drugs and lots of them, too. Frying on acid, mushrooms and peyote became my religion, opening up places in my mind that were so fantastic, I was obligated to "depict" or "capture" their essence in my art. I was truly out of my mind and loving it! After graduating High School I entered U. C. L. A. as a Fine Arts Major, broadining my artistic medium to include sculpture, photograpyu, music and performance art. My partner and mentor, occult guitar swami, Ron Novdik and I formed the band, "Men From Mars", a project which became a creative multi-dementional "Gorilla On Acid" run-amuck, where music powered by innovative concept and visual art, along with ancient alien philosophy and a strong social unconciousness, works together as integral parts fueling a much greater artistic agenda. I was now finally aware of my purpose on this planet and the mission it entailed: The orchestration of a major creative offensive against as artistically mundane status quo!
